007AJ Crewvine

A professional network theme for WordPress: profiles with experience, education and skills, connections, a feed, company pages, jobs and applications, messaging, notifications, paid job posts, featured jobs and a paid membership. Version 1.0.0

1. Install

  1. Go to Appearance > Themes > Add New > Upload Theme, choose crewvine-1.0.0.zip, click Install Now, then Activate. Activating with WP-CLI (wp theme activate crewvine) works too.
  2. The Crewvine Engine plugin is bundled inside the theme. It installs and activates itself when you activate the theme, and every theme update brings the matching engine update. Nothing else to install. If your host blocks plugin installs, an admin notice shows a one-click button to install it.
  3. You land on Crewvine > Dashboard with your stats and a launch checklist.

Requirements: WordPress 6.4+, PHP 7.4+, the GD or Imagick image library and pretty permalinks (Set up my site turns them on).

2. Set up my site (one click)

Open Crewvine > Set up my site, pick a preset (Professional network, Tech careers, Healthcare professionals, Creative industry or Local business community) and press Set up my site. It creates the homepage, the network app page, Log in, Join, Community guidelines and Privacy pages, the main and footer menus and pretty links.

Tick Include sample content to add 8 sample members with full profiles, 4 company pages, 6 jobs, posts with images, reactions, comments, connections and a message thread, so the site never looks empty while you build it. The button is safe to press again: nothing you created or edited is overwritten.

Remove sample content (same screen) deletes only the sample members and everything they made. Real members are never touched.

3. Profiles

Every member has a profile at /profile/their-name/ with a photo, cover, headline, location, industry, about, website, experience, education and skills. Members fill it in from Me > Edit profile. Experience can link to a company page on the site so the company logo shows.

Connections can endorse each other's skills with one click; the count shows next to each skill. Members can switch on an Open to work or Hiring note. Profile views are counted, and members of your paid membership see who viewed them.

4. Connections and follows

Members send an invitation (with an optional note) from a profile or from My Network. The other member accepts or ignores it. Connections see each other's posts in their feed, can message each other and endorse skills. Members can also follow people and company pages without connecting. My Network shows invitations, sent invitations, connections, follows and "people you may know" based on shared connections, companies and industry.

5. Feed, posts, reactions and comments

The home feed shows posts from the member, their connections, people and companies they follow, then other recent posts. Posts can have text and an image. Four reactions (Like, Celebrate, Support, Insightful) and comments work instantly without a page reload. Every post has its own link at /post/123/ with a copy-link share button. Members can delete their own posts and comments and report anyone else's.

6. Company pages

Any member can create a company page from Me > Company pages: name, logo, cover, tagline, about, industry, size, headquarters and website. The page at /company/name/ has Home, About, Posts and Jobs tabs, followers and the members who list it in their experience. The owner can post as the company and hand the page to another member from Crewvine > Companies.

7. Jobs and applications

Jobs are posted from a company page: title, location, workplace (on-site, hybrid, remote), job type, level, salary range and description. The jobs board at /network/?view=jobs has search and filters, featured jobs first. Each job has its own page at /job/123/title/.

Members apply with Easy apply: a short note and an optional résumé (PDF or image, stored privately, never public). The employer sees applicants under My job posts > Applicants with each profile and résumé and moves them through Submitted, Viewed, Shortlisted, Interviewing, Hired or Not selected. Applicants follow their status under My applications, and both sides get a notification. Employers and applicants can message each other.

8. Paid job posts, featured jobs and membership

ProductWhat it doesDefault

Membership plans are one line each in Settings > Membership plans: key|Label|days|price, for example month|1 month|30|9.99. Payments are one-time charges (no automatic renewals); members renew from Me > Payments, and buying again adds time. Every payment is listed in Crewvine > Orders & revenue.

9. Messaging and notifications

Members can message their connections. Members of your paid membership and moderators can message anyone, anyone can reply to a conversation started with them, and employers and applicants can message each other. Conversations update live while open. Notifications cover invitations, accepted invitations, reactions, comments, endorsements, new followers, applications, application status and payments. The badges on Messaging, My Network and Notifications refresh by themselves (Settings sets how often).

11. Moderation and the admin dashboard

Every menu item lives under Crewvine in wp-admin:

Rate limits for posts, comments, invitations and messages, and a blocked words list, are in Settings. Suspended members cannot sign in.

12. Stripe

  1. In Stripe go to Developers > API keys and copy the secret key (sk_test_… to test, sk_live_… when live). Paste it in Crewvine > Settings > Stripe, or define CW_STRIPE_SECRET in wp-config.php.
  2. Press Create Stripe webhook. It adds one webhook for this site and saves its signing secret. If your Stripe account already has the maximum number of webhooks, add it by hand with the URL shown, or skip it: every payment is also confirmed on the page the buyer returns to after Checkout.
  3. Test with card 4242 4242 4242 4242, any future date and any CVC.

Payments go straight to your own Stripe account. No other shop plugin is needed.

13. Settings

Crewvine > Settings: network name, homepage headline, preset, brand colour, open sign-ups, review paid jobs before they go live, posts per page, currency, job post price and days, featured price and days, membership name, plans and job discount, upload size, rate limits, blocked words, live update interval and Stripe keys. Fonts, colours, the header and footer can also be changed in Appearance > Editor.

14. Going live

  1. Remove the sample content (Set up my site > Remove sample content).
  2. Set your network name, headline, colour and prices.
  3. Switch Stripe to your live secret key and create the webhook again for live mode.
  4. Edit the Community guidelines and Privacy pages for your network.
  5. Create your own company page and post the first jobs, then invite your first members.

15. FAQ

Links show 404

Go to Settings > Permalinks and press Save, or run Set up my site again.

Images do not upload

Check Crewvine > System info: GD or Imagick must be available, and the upload size limit must be at least the size in Settings.

A payment stays "pending"

Check the Stripe key and webhook in Settings. Payments are also confirmed when the buyer returns from Checkout, so the buyer can open the return link again.

Updates

Upload the new theme zip over the old one (Replace current with uploaded). The bundled engine updates itself on the next admin page view. Your members and content stay.
